Home Remedies for Acne Scars

As difficult as it is to suffer from acne, for some people the struggle continues into adulthood thanks to the scars that may develop from acne lesions. There is a lot you can do to reduce acne scars, especially if you start taking steps while you are still experiencing active acne problems. A number of home remedies for acne scars are available, so it is relatively easy to find different things to try.

Popular home remedies for acne scars

There are lots of home remedies for acne scars, ranging from those that make good sense to those that seem kind of strange or on the fringe. We have put together a few examples of home remedies for acne scars that most people feel do have some positive effects. These include the following:

Lemon juice or lime juice – Squeeze the juices out of either a lemon or a lime and apply directly to your acne scars. Over time these juices can lighten dark blemishes and acne scars, making them less noticeable.

Sandalwood and rosewater paste – Mix some sandalwood with rosewater to make a thick paste and then apply it to your acne scars. Leave on overnight if possible, then wash off using plenty of clean, cool water.

Honey – Honey has long been used as a natural moisturizer, and it can help with acne scars as well. Simply apply a dab of honey directly on the scar and let it soak in for fifteen to twenty minutes. Some health food stores also sell honey-based supplements that are purported to help with acne scarring.

Ice cubes – This is a great way to shrink your pores rapidly and help ease the irritation that contributes to acne scarring. Take an ice cube pack and place it on the area of your face where you have scars, leaving it on for ten to fifteen minutes at a time.

Sliced tomatoes – Many people believe strongly in the power of sliced tomatoes to reduce the visibility and occurrence of acne scars. Place the tomato slices on your face and leave them there for twenty to thirty minutes; the vitamin A in the tomatoes may reduce the production of sebum in your skin and also rejuvenated damaged and scarred skin.

These are just a few of the home remedies for acne scars that you can easily try without doing any damage or causing any risk to your skin. Keep in mind that these kinds of remedies do take some time and consistency to start creating results. In most cases you need to apply the remedy regularly (several times a week) over the course of three to six months in order to start seeing results.

Whatever home remedies for acne scars you choose, keep in mind that the very best way to fight acne scars is to prevent them in the first place. Don’t pick at acne lesions or the scabs they form while healing, and keep your face nice and clean using a gentle cleanser. Also use a light oil-free moisturizer to help keep your skin moist, health, and scar free.
