There are several different reasons why acne can develop
on your skin. Find out more and how to combat them.

Adult Acne Cure

Adult acne. For most people, the thought of having to deal with problem acne as an adult seems like it just should not happen. After all, acne is for teenagers, right? In most cases the answer to this question is yes; by far the majority of cases of acne occur in teenagers. Their skin is particularly susceptible to acne problems during this tumultuous time of their lives.

But the reality is that adults get acne as well. Sometimes it is a carryover from the teenage years while other times it just appears without warning at a later time in life. Regardless of how or when it shows up, adults with acne have one major thing in common with teenagers: they want to find a cure for their acne.

Finding an adult acne cure

Just as with teenage acne, though, finding an adult acne cure can be a challenging process. There are plenty of creams, lotions, washes, and rinses available on the market, all of which claim to be "the best" adult acne cure. The truth is that most of these products are made with the same basic ingredients; the biggest differences between most them are the packaging and the advertising.

When it comes to an adult acne cure, the best approach is to follow the same basics as are recommended for teenagers to handle their acne problems as well.

Keep your face and skin clean

The reason acne occurs in the first place is primarily due to dirt and bacteria. As dirt and bacteria accumulate on your face they block the pores of your skin, creating little pockets of bacteria that grow into pimples and blackheads. The key to dealing with this is not just to get rid of the pimples and blackheads you already have, but to prevent new pimples and blackheads from developing in the first place.

Accomplishing this means keeping your face and skin as clean as possible. Try using a mild facial cleanser in the morning and in the evening, but be careful in how you wash. Never scrub your skin; it may seem like you’re scrubbing away the acne but you’re actually irritating the skin and increasing the chances of your acne sticking around for a while. After cleansing your face and skin, pat it dry with a clean towel; again, don’t rub or scrub.

Apply an anti-acne product

This is where most people get stuck when looking for an adult acne cure. There are so many anti-acne products on the market that it is difficult to know which one is going to work best for you. The best approach is to start mild and work your way up from there if your acne is still causing problems.

Look for products that contain either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid is readily available over the counter in concentrations ranging from 0.5% all the way up to 2%, while benzoyl peroxide is also available over the counter in concentrations ranging from 2.5% all the way up to 10%. Whichever product you choose, start with the lowest concentration and give it some time to see how effective it is for you.
